Since 1994, Michael Savage has been one of radio’s most blunt political voices. Born Michael Weiner, he earned a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley and was an author of health and nutrition books before turning to broadcasting. His radio career began in 1994, when he became a fill-in host at KGO/San Francisco. The station was impressed enough to make him a morning host later that year.On January 1, 1995, he became afternoon host of The Savage Nation at KSFO/San Francisco, proclaiming himself “to the right of Rush [Limbaugh] and the left of God.” His fiery brand of political discussion was an instant success, becoming the top-rated show in its time slot. The Savage Nation was syndicated nationally beginning in 2000; by 2009, it was heard on more than 400 stations in the U.S. and was rated the second-most listened-to radio show in the country. Since 2012, The Savage Nation has been syndicated by Cumulus Media Networks. The author of over twenty-five books—including five New York Times best-sellers—Savage is also the only American media figure who has been banned from entering Great Britain owing to his Nationalist themes concerning borders, language and culture.Michael Savage was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2016.
